| Bio: | Character: Jane of the Volturi Age/Birthdate: Though Jane has the appearance of a 12-year-old girl, she is, in fact, over five hundred years old. Family: Jane is a prized guard the Volturi, the so-called 'Royal Family' of the vampires, though she is not quite considered a member of the family itself. Her maker is Aro. She has a human twin brother named Alec who was also turned along with her and with whom she is very close. He, along with Aro, are the only vampires who have ever had any placating effect on her. General Personality: Jane is, essentially, a grown woman in a little girl's body, and a literal embodiment of all those dichotomies and frustrations. Her greatly feared gift has given her an immense feeling of superiority, authority, and an ample taste for sadism over humans and vampires. She has retained a great deal of her spoilt childish aspects: she can be sullen and impetuous; precocious and temperamental--especially if she is being ignored. However, it cannot be denied that Jane has garnered a great deal of responsibility, admiration, and trust from the Volturi leaders. She takes her responsibilities with deadly seriousness and is efficient, merciless, and reliable. Background: In the sunset days of the Florentine Republic's control over Tuscany, Alec and Jane were born to a lowly farmer and his seamstress wife in a small Tuscan village close to Volterra. They were very poor and struggled to survive, scorned and looked down upon by Italy's rising middle class. Having only been faced with cruelty and disgust, Jane became defiant and angry at a young age, shunning a society that shunned her. Every weekend, Jane and Alec's mother would bring them to the markets in Volterra for trade, which is how the twins first attracted the notice of Aro--for Jane and her brother seemed to have special gifts: though they often hurled insults and tried to cheat Jane's mother, very few people could meet Jane's gaze without flinching when she was furious with them. It was as if she could mentally will them harm. Aro saw potential in this, but wanted to wait until the twins were older before turning them. Unfortunately, others did not. Fearful of this wretched family and their perceived demonic children, local villagers killed Jane's mother and father when they tried to protect their children and were about to burn Jane and Alec at the stake when Aro stepped in and saved them, slaughtering the entire village and turning the twins. Ever since, Jane has lived with and dedicated her life to the Volturi. She found vampiric life addicting and rewarding, having been so "low on the food chain" as a human to now being on top of it, er, literally. Appearance: Jane appears to be a 12-year-old innocent, delicate child with a childish voice, but her gaze has always been unsettling, not only because of how much pain she can inflict on others, but because one can sense her ever-present fury and desire for violence in it. She is very petite, with short dark brown hair, wide eyes that are crimson from drinking human blood, and full lips. She is, like all vampires, extremely pale. Her androgynous beauty would have been revered by Italian Renaissance painters. | |||||||||
